The Ghost Who Walks by stokesbook The Ghost Who Walks by stokesbook
So over the course of the last year Iíve met a bunch of great people whoíve been very supportive of my work, including some industry pros.

Marc Lamingís [link] definitely been one of the biggest influences on me this year, really helping me improve my work and even sending some work my way to help out. Itís Marcís birthday coming up in a couple of weeks so as The Phantom is one of his favourite characters, I thought Iíd do a pin-up for him.

Heís already seen it and was fine with me posting it about. So here it is!

Thanks for all the help Marc!

Really nice. Good composition and you do a really good job separating the planes using detail for values. Very good job organizing the elements so that the scene is easy to read at one glance.

A couple of things I would say that would improve this is to 1) watch your tangents. There is a definite line that runs along the top of the bush on the left through the underside of his thigh. Also, there's a line that runs down from the vine on the left of Phantom's arm down his forearm. Definitely a thing to avoid. I say this as a guy who runs into the same problem often.

Another thing I would say is that you can separate Phantom from the bg better by increasing the level of shadows where he and the background trees/vines meet (the junction of Phantom's elbow/hip/vines&trees; rimlight side of the main tree on the right). Also, by increasing the shadow where the rimlight side of the main tree and his left arm meet, you can push that arm forward 'cause I didn't even see that arm when I first looked at the pic.

Overall, great job.

Great work Dave. loving the use of blacks in your work. The rendering of the trees and foliage in particular are fantastic. You make me want to pick up a brush again to ink! Good work.
